If you need any recommendations, please don't hesitate to contact me. One of my favorite things to do, besides sit and watch the ocean, of course, is to visit some of the local restaurants. Here are tips for what to order from a few favorites. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu at these restaurants.
Specials, hours, prices and discounts can change, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
This restaurant is located just across the street. The specials are amazing, especially the cheese grits. On Fridays at lunch, they serve fried chicken. You have to go early because they sell out quickly. Don't forget dessert! The key lime pie and apple crisp are favorites.

This restaurant is just a short drive into Nags Head on the right side of Beach Road. They offer a 25% discount off their meal for military personnel and first responders. The shrimp and grits is a favorite of mine, but their daily specials are also very tasty.

What can I say about the Jolly Roger other than YUM, and they are only a short drive up Beach Road back into Kill Devil Hills on the left side! The atmosphere is very unique and they are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They offer the $4.99 breakfast, which you really can't beat. All of the breads are homemade. I like the raisin bread and white toast. My favorite things on the menu for dinner are the Blackened Chicken Carbonara and the Prime Rib. Friday night is Prime Rib night. Also, if you go between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM during the week, the Italian Specialty dinner menu items are buy one, get one free. Be sure to pull up the coupon on your phone and show it to your server.

You can get very unique flavors of donuts made to order. There are several locations in the Outer Banks, but the closest is out on the main highway going back into Kill Devil Hills on the left side.

In the mood for some seafood? The Red Drum has the best on the beach in my opinion. The Tuna Reuben is superb, and the Tarragon Tuna Salad Wrap is a special that you can usually find at lunchtime.

Miller's is just a short walk on Beach Road into Kill Devil Hills. They serve breakfast and dinner. In my opinion, they have the best biscuits on the beach. They are so light and fluffy and melt in your mouth. For dinner, the crab cakes are excellent. If you are in the mood for a seafood pasta dish, try the Beach Road pasta with alfredo sauce and shrimp.

What can I say about the Rundown Café? It's a little farther of a drive than some of our other recommendations, but definitely worth it. They are open for lunch and dinner. Everything on the menu is delicious, and we have definitely tried everything. The specials are amazing! Also, if you stay during the fall or early spring, Monday is “Out Of This World” Fried Chicken night. If you want to try something a little different, the Hawaiian or the Asian Sesame Poke Bowls are phenomenal. Be sure to sit on the second floor or, if the weather is nice, out on the upper deck, so you can watch the ocean, relax, and enjoy an amazing meal.

If you are in Manteo for the day, be sure to stop by O'Neal's. Wicked Tuna is filmed here, and they have some of the best soft-shell crab sandwiches on the island. If you are looking for fresh seafood, this is also the place. Buy it as it comes off the boat and take it back to your condo to cook.

Looking for a sweet treat? This is your place. They have different flavors almost every day, and they are all made right there in the store.
